The Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) submitted its report on the Fingerboards EES to the Minister on 30 September 2021.
The Committee said “The environment effects of the Fingerboards Mineral Sands Project cannot be managed to an acceptable level and the Project approvals should not be granted.“
The Minister released his assessment in November 2021. He agreed with the IAC’s recommendation and concluded that ‘the environmental effects of the project are unacceptable’.
“It is my assessment from the whole of environment assessment undertaken for the EES that the project will result in unacceptable environmental effects on biodiversity, air quality, nearby agriculture and horticulture and water availability and unacceptable social impacts on the surrounding community.”
