We joined hundreds of others at the Bairnsdale Rotunda for Global Climate Strike in September

Uncategorized

We joined the climate strike at the Bairnsdale rotunda on September 20th. Congratulations to the organisers on such a well run event and kudos to those brilliant young leaders who gave such heart-felt, intelligent and motivating speeches. All power to you.

It was heartening to see so many people of all ages wearing orange at the Climate Strike. Kalbar intend to remove more 400 mature trees to make way for a massive open cut mine that in parts will be deeper than the St Mary’s tower. They will use more than 3,000,000,000 litres of waterannually for dust suppression/processing. With so many other, more suitable sites around Victoria and Australia, the mine is unnecessary and unsustainable. It is all about short term gain for a few at the expense of local people, our sustainable local economies and our fragile environment.
