I believe the Mineral Sands Mine if it goes ahead will severely impact our way of life, our gardens, our wildlife, our air, our Mitchell river, by using a huge amount of groundwater and polluting our air with toxic dust.
This is only ONE of the worst things to happen in our area let alone the country. The dishonesty from Kalbar is immense and the detriment to our community and lifestyle is immeasurable. Please DO NOT ALLOW this to happen.
This proposed Mine is short sighted and brings with it known catastrophic outcomes. To suggest that Kalbar are ‘fit and proper’ to undertake this project is farcical. This project will destroy known and unknown Aboriginal cultural sites, ancient aquifers which have sustained life for millennia, endangered flora and fauna, 900+ ‘significant’ trees which predate European arrival, bring toxic dust to the landscape that will decimate the productive and sustainable food growing businesses, which supply product for Victoria and well beyond …. and to counter this, Kalbar cite royalties and taxes as benefits. The Australian Taxation Office clearly identifies one in three businesses don’t pay a cent of tax, and this is noted in their recent report – they cite Mining as one of the main offenders. How can this project proceed against the scientific evidence which clearly illustrates the poor standard of data in the EES (which seeks to minimise risks by a ‘sleigh of hand’ on a document) and the flawed calculations provided by Kalbar. Stop this mine. Save so much more!
