Postcard to Minister Wynne

Postcard to Minister Wynne

  1. This is only ONE of the worst things to happen in our area let alone the country. The dishonesty from Kalbar is immense and the detriment to our community and lifestyle is immeasurable. Please DO NOT ALLOW this to happen.

  2. Kalbar are not ‘fit and proper’ to be given the approval for this project. They have consistently demonstrated a skewed agenda – one which aims to minimise risks (on paper), ignore sound and established principles of robust scientific assessment, use flawed data and miscalculations, consider the use of (minimum) 8 million litres of drinking water a day acceptable, destroy unique habitat and ecosystems, kill animals in vast numbers,
decimate ancient aquifers and the like. The food production region of Victoria (and well beyond) is at direct threat, as is the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage. Kalbar Directors and CEO’s have a ‘shady’ past and a review of their past projects and ventures illustrates their poor standards and distorted moral compass. Check out the Workcover report for the Fosterville Mine explosion which put 10 workers in hospital. They were, as stated in the report, lucky not to be killed outright. Kalbar current CEO was the mine manager at that time.
And their financial dealings are murky to say the least. This is illustrated in the Tabled Documents from Submitters during the Panel hearings. Suggestions of taxes and royalties as an enticement are farcical. The Tax office report noted mining was the top of the list when it came to the “one in three businesses who have failed to pay a cent in tax”.
Ethical decision making framework would support this mine not being approved.
So much is at risk from the short term project, and the damage can never be repaired.
This project cannot proceed and the whole region, like the Lindenow River flats adjacent, need to be protected from mining forever.
